We conclude Lent with a special service focusing on the new and eternal life we have as those baptized into Christ. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, we will celebrate an Easter service used by Christians since the AD 300’s. This will be the first time we observe this special service at Peace.
“Vigil” is a word that comes up in the Passover and Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. This real, historical event foreshadowed the work of Jesus our perfect Passover Lamb who takes away the sin of the world and delivers us from death. As the Israelites kept vigil late into the night, awaiting their release from slavery in Egypt, so the Easter Vigil Service is held late on Saturday night, with candles (representing Christ the Light of the World) liturgy, prayer, and lessons awaiting our remembrance that Christ is risen indeed.
This service will begin at 11:15 pm on Saturday April 4 and conclude shortly after midnight. Weather-permitting the service begins quietly outside before processing into the worship space for a service of the Word, a remembrance of our baptisms (and its connection to Jesus’ resurrection and ours) and concludes with Easter joy and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
